Sometimes we need comic relief

It was nice to work on a large, loose self portrait after the 50 tiny ones. This was for a group art challenge. The prompt was Self Portrait using spray paint. I was happy to oblige.

But after working on all those 7 x 5.5 inch collages, it was rather startling to see this VERY BIG FACE staring at me from my studio wall. Startling, but also somewhat amusing.

Art as coping mechanism

It’s no coincidence I embarked on this self-portrait challenge the middle of October, leading up to the Presidential election. I needed some distraction to cope with the anxiety I was feeling. I became obsessed with completing one collage a day.

Third row shows the worry, the waiting, the hoping, the frustration , the elation, the exhaustion.
